My it has gone fast. Really fast. It seems just yesterday that I was still in double digits with the countdown. And although I have managed to get some things done, like securing a place with Woodstock childcare in Sydney, there still seems to be way too many things to do. I would feel happier if I had sorted out a place to rent... but it really is a bit ... [Read More]

I swear, it is almost like he knows. Lately, my son has become my personal cheering squad. I get him dinner. "Great job Mum-Mum!" I help build a lego-house, it's a round…

One of the many wonderful things about Winter (my second favourite time of year, topped only by Autumn) is the fact that scarves can be worn. Thick woollen ones hand…

1. I don't drive I can't. As you can expect with such a proclamation there is a bit of a story. The short of it is, when I was in mid-to-late…

Almost Like He Knows
I swear, it is almost like he knows. Lately, my son has become my personal cheering squad. I get him dinner. "Great job Mum-Mum!" I help build a lego-house, it's a round of applause and a big 'Yay Mum-Mum.' I read him a story, and it's another 'Great job Mum-Mum." I change his nappy and he goes 'Yay!' Well... not quite, he still doesn't like that, and very much tells me so, looking me ... [Read More]
The Sweetest Thing
Whilst we're out exploring in the overgrown garden today (a rare Summery day in Winter), Mr Almost-Three picks up a rotting camellia flower, holds it out to me and says "I love you Mum-mum." Despite being more brown than white, that flower was suddenly the prettiest one there. I don't think he's ever said anything like that completely unprompted before.
Terrible Twos?
Tonight, my son was being a bit of a terror. Kicking, biting, refusing to co-operate with anything. He was really tired, and as a result, we had a couple of time outs. I explained to my Mother that he had been naughty, so there were no treats tonight, and it was straight to bed for him, no fuss. So, straight after telling him this, she gives him a chocolate biscuit. I put ... [Read More]
Things That Drive Me Crazy
(With relation to my Mother and my son) 1. Rewarding my son for bad behaviour. Either with food, or with comfort, or attention. Happens on a daily basis. 2. Ignoring the requests of myself, doctors and plunket with regards my son's safety. Example One: Refusing to follow safe guidelines for sleep and leaving him to sleep on his back. She even went so far as to go in, after I had settled him ... [Read More]
Insomnia
I'm still tired, but it's no longer my son's fault (or rather the fault of his cough-cold). Insomnia has set in again and I'm finding myself closing my eyes and unable to sleep. My mind just keeps on going and all the usual relaxation techniques are failing. Last night I just waited and waited and waited. Tonight, I opened up the laptop. Shit. 5am almost. I know why. It was another ... [Read More]
Worn Out
I think it has been three, maybe four, nights in a row that I've been up to as late as 6am. Any attempts at writing anything coherent here has failed abysmally. But, I don't want to neglect my blog for too long. My resolution to write daily has been broken too many times already. And the reason for my late nights? A mix of insomnia, and a sick son. Generally, he's doing ... [Read More]
