I am a 35 year old Kiwi Mum who has sole care of her very busy and active toddler, and living in Sydney, Australia having moved here on the 25th of August, 2010. I’ve been on my own since before my son was born, having found out I was pregnant shortly after leaving my husband and returning from where we lived in Wales together.

Being not in possession of my sanity, I signed up to study at the University at Waikato shortly after my return, intending to finish the degree I started at Auckland about 10 years ago. Before cancer (Hodgkins) put a halt to it in my final year. Of course, my focus has entirely changed since then, so instead of doing a BSc in Biology, Environmental Science and Ecology, this time I concentrated on Computer Science, with a focus on Web development and Programming.

It was crazy. Doing it on my own, with a two year old, whilst pregnant.. not even taking a break for the birth.. sitting exams a few weeks later and continuing on. I didn’t put Ewan in creche full time.. I just had no sleep and no life. I think it was worth it, but I’m not sure yet. I graduated in April 2010 and had an average grade of A+.
